Final Post

I believe that even though there are some negative aspects of technology, I have not had many problems with my devices.  There are times I can be on my phone too much, or watching TV for too long, but I like to keep a balance between being active and being on technology.  I am not that person that can play a video game for multiple hours without leaving my bed or chair because I would get antsy after probably an hour and then want to do something active.
Technology can also be unreliable.  For example if I want information on something sports related like a big trade that some page on instagram posted, the first thing I do is check the source that they found that information is from to see if it is credible.  If it is I believe it, and if it is not then I wait for more information about the possible trade to be posted on other pages by other sources.
I would say technology definitely is a positive part of their lives.  My parents do not have social media, and they mostly are just on their phone or computer for work purposes.  We are also usually late to purchase new technologies.  For example, we still have a landline in our house, which I believe a lot of people do not use anymore.  My brother is not deeply invested in social media either, and he pretty much just uses Instagram for his sports page and anything else technology related to be updated on the latest sports news.
Overall, technology has obviously changed the world, and there are pros and cons to it.  Some people are too invested and obsessed with their social media presence, while others do not even have social media.  Yet, without technology we would still be relying on the daily newspaper as our news source and there would not be as many ways to be entertained as there are today.  Technology has evolved over the years and the newest ideas and inventions are only getting crazier and more extraordinary.

Privacy Post

The TED talk presented by Catherine Crump was very interesting.  She mentioned that the Government can track you based on your location, which is something they used to not be able to do, but modern technology helped them gain the ability to do so.  This helps the government learn a lot of personal information about you.  She also said that this can make the police stereotype you based on where you go, which I found pretty interesting.
The next TED talk I listened to was Christopher Soghoian's presentation on Surveillance.  He says that the phone companies give the government the ability to listen to our calls, and that the phones we use to call our friends and families with were made for surveillance purposes first.   Although, he does mention that Apple and other companies such as WhatsApp do a very good job in keeping what you do on your iPhone private, and difficult for people to hack, read or listen to your conversations.  This is also making Government officials angry because they believe they should be allowed to listen and see the conversations citizens have on their phones, which in my opinion is ridiculous because we should be able to keep what we do on our phones private.  Why should I have to be concerned about the government listening to all of my conversations, especially when I have never done anything wrong or illegal before.  I am a little relieved to know that companies such as Apple understand privacy and use encryption tools to prevent the government from knowing everything about me.

Diffusions of Innovations Blog Post

There is so much to think of when you think of technology.  Some people try to get the newest iPhone and are willing to stand in lines for hours or days to wait for it.  Then there are the people that rather get away from technology and prefer to do things outside.  I believe when there is a new technological device that is being talked about constantly, I am more of a late adopter of it.  I am not the person that needs the new iPhone every time there is a new one released because I still have the iPhone 8+ and I like the home button.  To be honest I am not even sure which iPhone is the most recent because why get something new if my Phone functions and does not irritate me.  I do not consider myself to be obsessed with technology other than the fact that there are days I am on my phone a lot, but the only other devices I have is my mac book air computer, which I use for school, my Amazon fire stick, which I love because it is cheap and it gives you so many things to watch, whether it is streaming sport games, watching TV shows or movies, or more, and my AirPods, which I like because there is no wire and I find them easier to use then headphones.

In order for the Diffusion of Innovations theory to be possible, people have to adopt a certain technology, so other people do so and then it becomes popular.  A new innovation that a lot of people have adopted is the social media app TikTok.  Personally, I have never downloaded the app, but it is very popular especially to teenage girls.  Some people believe it is a good way to express your emotions or a fun way to post videos of yourself, but other people like me do not see the point in another app especially if it is like Instagram, which I have and is the reason I do not have TikTok.  I also do not have interest in posting TikTok's so I do not think there is any point in downloading the app just to watch them because I can also do that on Instagram.

I believe technology is great and I enjoy what I have, but with that being said I like what I have and feel that some new innovations are unnecessary and not worth buying or downloading.

Alternative Media

Alternative Media are forms of media that differ from the current mainstream, whether it be content, distribution or format.  Alternative media can be digital, print, audio, video etc.   There are many alternative media sources in the world, but there is not one that I have heard of before.

The Corbett Report is an independent, listener-supported alternative news source.  They make podcasts, interviews, articles and videos about breaking news and important issues.   Other alternative media sources include Zero Hedge, The Enoch Times, Speed The Shift News and Intellectual Takeout.

Speech Theories Post

The eight values of free expression are marketplace of ideas, participation of self government, stable change, individual fulfillment, check on governmental power, promote tolerance, promote innovation and protect dissent.  I believe that the fifth and eighth values of free expression are the most important.  I think this because we have the right to speak out against the government, especially if they are doing something unconstitutional.  One example of why US citizens should be allowed to criticize the government is the way they treated Australian news reporter Julian Assange.  They arrested him because he witnessed American Soldiers killing innocent people in the Middle East, and has been in prison for many years because he called the government out because of the killings of these innocent people.  In my opinion this should not be allowed, and I am surprised that such a little amount of Americans know about Julian Assange.  We really need to speak out against the government if they are doing stuff like this, especially if it keeps happening!

Antiwar articles post

I think that the main reasoning behind citizens having to do a lot of research to find these antiwar websites that no one really knows much about is because the government does not want us to see these websites.  They want these websites to be unknown, so it is probably more difficult to find these antiwar articles on google and other web browsers.  I believe that this is unfair because everyone should have the right to research what they want to research, unless it is something terrible like how to make a bomb.  These antiwar websites should not be difficult to research, as we have the right to look up antiwar websites.

Twitter Blog Post EOTO

Twitter was founded in 2006 by co-founder Jack Dorsey.  It originally was imagined as a SMS based communications platform where friends could be in touch with each other.  When Dorsey proposed Twitter to podcast company Odeo, Odeo's co founders, Evan Williams and Biz Stone, gave Dorsey the go ahead to further develop Twitter.  Twitter used to be named twttr.  Software developer Noah Glass made the name twttr and eventually developed it into Twitter.  Dorsey, Williams and Stone bought Twitter back from their investors after it was going through a rough patch.  Apple's release of its own podcasting platform was a reason why Twitter was going through a rough patch.

At the South by Southwest interactive conference, there was a major amount of Twitter usage.  In fact there were over 60,000 tweets that were sent just that day at the event.

In 2016 Twitter expanded the maximum length of videos posted to the service from 30 seconds to 140 seconds.  Also in 2016, Twitter shared 600 hours of live video and had 31 million viewers.  Millions of people went to Twitter during the Presidential debates, election and 2017 inauguration.  They also have partnerships with the NFL, Disney channel and Buzzfeed.

There are some pros and cons when it comes to Twitter as well.  Some pros are you can receive the latest news quickly, Twitter gives your business free publicity, there are no political ads and Twitter is a great platform for free speech and self expression.  A couple cons are fake accounts are a problem and people rarely every buy directly on or from Twitter.
